You can shift how you feel by consciously choosing the opposite emotional direction, and your mind will begin to follow.

The Purpose

All of your tools are designed to help you feel better so you’re not operating from stress, fear, or limitation.

When you feel better:

  • You think more clearly
  • You access better solutions
  • You feel supported instead of alone

Why This Matters

Many of us were taught that emotions just happen and are based on circumstances.
This technique reminds you that you can recognize what you’re feeling, and consciously shift it.

Step 1: Recognize the Feeling

Get specific about what you’re feeling:

  • Overwhelmed
  • Sad
  • Anxious
  • Out of control

Each feeling has its own energy, and naming it helps you become aware of it.

Step 2: Soften the Feeling

Before shifting, take the edge off by allowing the feeling:

  • “It’s okay I feel overwhelmed”
  • “It’s okay I’m having these thoughts”

This reduces resistance and brings in a sense of ease.

Step 3: Play the Opposite Game

Ask yourself:

  • What do I want to feel instead?
  • What’s the opposite of this feeling?

Examples:

  • Overwhelmed → “All is well” / capable
  • Sad → Happy
  • Anxious → Peaceful
  • Out of control → Empowered

You’re not forcing anything, you’re simply choosing a new direction.

Step 4: Support the New Feeling

Play with finding thoughts that match the feeling you want:

  • “It’s going to be okay”
  • “I’ll figure this out”
  • “Things are working out”

You can also shift into appreciation for simple things around you, allowing the new feeling to grow.

What’s Happening

When you stay in negative thinking, your mind brings up more of the same, often pulling in old patterns and emotions.

When you shift:

  • You interrupt those patterns
  • You calm your system
  • You begin creating new ways of thinking and feeling

Practice

Keep it simple and doable:

  • Try it for a moment, a morning, or a full day
  • Use it in everyday situations—stress, frustration, or worry
  • Practice consistently and notice how it becomes more natural

A Simple Truth

You’re always moving in one of two directions-toward what feels bad, or toward what feels better.

The Opposite Game helps you notice where you are… and clearly choose a new path.
